FoodTech Challenge

The FoodTech Challenge was launched under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The Challenge is an international competition that aims to develop innovative technology-based solutions to enhance the resiliency of the food supply chain in an arid and marginal environment.

The Challenge is a joint project between the Ministry of Climate Change & Environment (MoCCAE) and Tamkeen LLC for innovative foodtech business solutions in support of the UAE’s 2051 National Food Security Strategy.

Held in collaboration with Masdar, Catalyst, Mubadala, the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, Al Dahra and Accenture, the 2020 competition welcomed entries from over 400 teams from 70 countries. The four winners – Has Algae, QSMonitor, Red Sea Farms and SafetyNet Technologies – were announced at an awards ceremony in November 2020, and each won a share of the $1m prize.
